-- Mayor Sheila Dixon Welcomes Santa Back To The City of Baltimore --

Harborplace & The Gallery is excited to announce the inaugural Santa House Lighting taking place on Saturday, November 21, 2009.

The Santa House Lighting celebration will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Harborplace Amphitheater with the harmonizing sounds of the barbershop group, The Heart of Maryland chorus, performing songs of the season.  The crowd is welcome to join in the caroling and enjoy entertainment by Harborplace & The Gallery Street Performers as they anticipate the arrival of Jolly Old St. Nick.  Some of Santa¹s elves will be passing out jingle bells to help ring in the season.

Everyone will delight in the sight of Santa Claus coming across the Inner Harbor by a festively adorned tug boat.  Upon his arrival, Santa will be ushered in by performances from a brass quintet from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore School for the Arts show-stopping troupe of "TapDancing Santas," who perform as part of the annual BSO Holiday Spectacular.

Mayor Sheila Dixon and Santa will commemorate the arrival of the holiday season by lighting up his holiday home at the Harborplace Amphitheater.

"I¹m so pleased that we're able to kick-off the holiday season and showcase our city¹s talent," said Mayor Sheila Dixon. "What better way to celebrate holiday cheer than to enjoy the Santa House Lighting festivities with family and friends."

"We are thrilled to create a new holiday tradition at Harborplace & The Gallery," said Christopher Schardt, Senior General Manager of Harborplace & The Gallery.  "As the premier downtown destination for all, Harborplace & The Gallery looks forward to welcoming guests from all around the region to the Inner Harbor for our arrival of Santa, and the merriment of the season with great entertainment provided by our partners."

The festivities will also be accompanied by a new event, City Blocks, featuring teams of architects, design professionals and grade school students building structures out of Tyco Blocks.  The structures will reflect a tugboat theme and be on display on the second floor of the Light Street Pavilion.  The building competition begins at 11a.m., and "The Judges¹ Award" and "People¹s Choice Award" will be announced at 3:45 p.m.

To make it even easier to enjoy all the fun and entertainment, guests will be offered a special $5 parking rate at The Gallery Garage, located across the street from the Harborplace Amphitheater at 101 S. Calvert Street.

Event partners include: Baltimore School for the Arts, Baltimore Architecture Foundation, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Sail Baltimore and Moran Towing- Baltimore, Department of Recreation & Parks, and the Baltimore Office of Promotion and The Arts.
